Review: Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty

A few months ago I put a call out on Instastories for a supplement that will give me Pocahontas’ hair- you know, 6 feet long, shiny, thick, looks magical in the wind, nothing too wild- in time for my wedding in January.

As always the Instafam delivered and two products came up trumps as must tries: Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty Powder and JS Health Hair and Energy Capsules. The  JS Capsules were out of stock until July (promising start!) so I gave the Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty powder a go first.

What started as a quest for #hairgoals turned into quite an interesting education about the benefits of collagen for skin and gut health- most of which I felt first hand.  Scroll on for all my thoughts (Spoiler alert: I loved it!)

Did you know that after the age of 25 your body starts to lose collagen at a rate of 1-2% a year? At 33 years of age, this was brand new, and somewhat alarming, news to me. It sent me down a Google rabbit hole to check the facts aaand the fact of the matter is it’s true *cries*.

Luckily, I’d already started taking the Nutra Organics Collagen powder when I heard the above and even more luckily-er (you know what I mean :p) my Google binge told me that the composition of the product was exactly as it should be for optimum benefits. Collagen should be taken with vitamin C to ensure proper absorption for skin and gut health, and with a side of zinc and horsetail herb for hair benefits.

So, what’s in Nutra Organic Collagen Beauty?

Verisol Bioactive Collagen Peptides (derived from bovine, so therefore not a vegan product)

Vitamin C

Zinc

Horsetail herb

YEP, all the good stuff!

As I said, I’d already started taking the powder daily when I discovered the above info but it was good to know that the changes I’d started to see probably weren’t a placebo effect!

Now, let’s get down to the nitty gritty…

ORDERING

Ordered online at www.nutraorganics.com.au (QLD based company)

Product:  Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty 225g bottle ($29.95)

TASTE

The product description states the powder is fully dissolvable in hot or cold liquids (true) and is completely odourless and flavourless (hmm. Not exactly).

Operating on the ‘flavourless’ claim I dumped the recommended serving size of 12g (easily measured out using the scoop included in the bottle. 2 scoops = 12g) into a glass of water and drank- which was huuuuge mistake.

I could definitely taste *something*. A cross between salty and chalky and meaty and overall not the best. I managed to get it all down, but it turned me off trying it again for a good week. To be completely honest, if I didn’t have so many of you waiting for a verdict I don’t think I would’ve tried it again!

How I take it:

I was determined to stick it out and after some trial and error found two options that worked for me: adding the powder to a hot cacao drink or add it to my morning oats. Both options have a bit of honey and cinnamon in them which I think was key to balancing out the salty taste of the powder.

The oats I have are either the Carmen Honey, Vanilla, Cinnamon packets with a dash of almond milk, or plain oats with honey and cinnamon and almond milk, and then stir in the collagen powder.

The hot cocoa is also super easy and perfect for days I didn’t have oats for breakfast. I just combine the collagen powder, cocoa powder (around 1-1.5 teaspoons), cinnamon powder and honey in a mug and pour in boiling water halfway. Make sure to stir briskly so everything dissolves, then top with a bit of almond milk.

RESULTS

HAIR

I’m kicking myself for not doing ‘proper’ photos from the start but thank god for date stamps because I clearly remember vowing to take the collagen properly from my birthday, 24th June ( #newyearnewme :p). Below are pics from May 24th and June 24th, our ‘control’ images if you will, to give an idea of hair growth in a month without collagen. Final pics were taking the week of July 24th-August 1st- pretty solid growth spurt huh?

In terms of thicker hair, I was definitely noticing less hair fallout in the shower and my top knots looking fuller but what sealed the deal was Paul, without prompting, commenting that he was seeing less hair around the apartment :p.

MAY 24th: Before Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty.

JUNE 24th: Start of regularly taking Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty.

July 24th-August 1st. After 4 weeks of taking Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty.

SKIN

Since I’ve been having regular facials for a few months I can’t say for certain that the collagen is solely responsible for my breakouts becoming few and far between BUT I did notice a drastic difference to my smile lines around my mouth. BC (Before Collagen) it didn’t matter how lightly I applied foundation because by the end of the day makeup would invariably settle in my fine lines- a problem I no longer had a few weeks into taking collagen *insert dancing girl emoji here*.

GUT

At the beginning of June, my GP referred me to a dietician as she suspected I should be on a low FODMAP diet. While I made some dietary changes for 2-3 weeks I just couldn’t sustain cutting out certain foods (like bread, onion and garlic!!!) for a mild discomfort. I was honestly happier being bloated but still eating bread :p. However, the collagen powder has seriously eased the bloat and improved digestion. While a huge bowl of pasta is still uncomfortable things like garlic and onion are non-issues.

Final Verdict:

A very welcome addition to my health/beauty armour. After the initial hurdle of how best to take the collagen, I’m happy with my two options that easily fit in easily to my daily routine. I noticed a change in hair, skin, gut within a month of daily use so of course, I’ve bought a second bottle!

I should mention that this review is by no means sponsored by Nutra Organics, and my choice to buy and try the product was solely based on feedback from you guys and some independent googling 🙂 But while I was writing this review I thought it might be cool to ask for a discount code for you guys and they said yes!

Use code (Edit: This is expired BUT the brand has reactivated in the past for limited periods. Will share on my Instagram): T2T15 for 15% off any product at https://www.nutraorganics.com.au/.

Let me know if you try the Collagen Beauty or even something else from the range. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hope the above has been helpful, treasure hunters!

l never had issues with my skin but some serious issues with my gut, still not sure what. The hair skin nails and gut gives me so much relief that no doctor or medicine could give me. Now iam wondering what exactly in this product that is so effective for my gut issues. I wish I knew, so that I can take loads of it.
