After many requests for maternity style advice ( not for me!), I decided to crowdsource the info via good old Instastories. And wow, did you deliver! Read on for suggestions on dressing the bump at an affordable price point.
1. The ‘cult’ pieces
These items popped up again and again!
Stretchy Kookai pieces
Especially their $80 dresses!
Supre and Cotton On have similar in the $20-$40 price bracket:
‘Riley jeans’ from Decjuba.
TIP: A lovely staff member advised regular sizing will work up until 20 weeks pregnant as the jeans stretch a full size. If buying in the 2nd half size up! Comes in 7 colourways and sizes 6-16.
Jeanswest Maternity Denim range
While many of you steered clear of denim there was a whole lot of love for the Jeanswest Maternity Denim range. A few styles to choose from with handy features like a nude tummy band in some and adjustable buttonholes in others.
2. Anything, but a size or two up
So, not technically a product but this was another popular suggestion. Pick an affordable brand like Kmart, Dottie, Target, Supre or Cotton On and size up.
Some styles to try are:
Shirtdress
This $20 one from Kmart will work well thanks to the flattering swing cut (A-line cut but starts flowing from the chest to give a bell shape- lots of swing and room to move!). T-shirt dresses are great as well.
Elastic waistbands
The pieces below were loved by you for also being breastfeeding friendly. So happy that the $25 Kmart polka dot dress has been restocked! And I’ve seen the jumpsuit getting rave review on Insta.
In addition to sizing up look for elastic waistbands and snap-close necklines (or sew on your own to crossover tops and blouses!).
Pleated Skirts
Look for elastic waistbands and soft flowy fabrics. The H&M and Target ones below are oh-so-comfy! A few more options linked.

Dress and structured blazer combo
This was a popular work wear look- especially in the early months of pregnancy when no one knows yet!
Flowing and printed dresses camouflage while the strong lines of a structured blazer keep the look polished- sounds kinda perfect for a bit of winter weight as well actually!

3. Online Stores To Try…
A mix of maternity boutiques and stores with non-maternity pieces was also sent in so here’s a breakdown.
Has an extensive range for both standard and ‘bump and beyond’ pieces. Fun prints and dressier options as well as casual.
St. Frock

Feather & Noise recently posted a series with pregnant stylist Anna Mac which was perfect timing for this post! Great to see their latest range styled for a bump.
As the name suggests this site is all about dresses at affordable prices (size range 6-18).
Has cozy cardis in a range of colours and prints as well as handy wrap dresses- oh and the #girlboss owner has first-hand experience dressing her bump in the range!.
Maternity Wear
Bae The Label, Ripe and Max and Mee are maternity wear labels. But, as the Max and Mee website states, the designs will be able to take you through all stages of mum life.
Tip: Many of these stores have gift card options. Perfect pressie idea ;).
