4 tips for winter layers with Marks & Spencer

Fact: winter is HARD- but winter dressing doesn’t need to be!

I’ve teamed up with Marks & Spencer to hunt out some easy to layer wardrobe basics. These pieces can take you from casual day time looks to something more polished- it’s all about the layering!

Tip 1: Start with a complimentary colour palette.

For this haul we have:

black, navy, white, cream, beige and khaki.

We often refer to black, navy and white as neutrals but I feel khaki and tan (or cream and beige in this instance) are right up there as easy neutral shades to build a look.

With this shade range we can build:

Tonal outfits: black and navy or khaki, cream and beige

Contrasting outfits: black with beige, or navy with khaki

One of my favourite style tips is to add a pop of interest/contrast with a white shoe. These leather ballet flats are oh so toasty and have Insolia Flex technology for added comfort.

Tip 2: Add interest with prints

A striped tee or long sleeved top will never get old! It’s a timeless must-have for every wardrobe that can add some interest to your look even if you take a layer/your coat off!

Bonus: it’s one of those pieces that can take you from day (team with cream/beige/khaki) to a night look (team with black/navy).

Tip 3: Play with silhouettes

Teaming oversized knits with tight jeggings, or relaxed pieces like these linen pants with polished coats and jackets helps to elevate winter layers.

The classic trench coat gives great structure to a look every time, and this Marks & Spencer one is a favourite.

I’ve spoken about this one often over on Instagram and is always part of my sale picks. Yes, it’s timeless but it also comes with the added bonus of Stormwear technology which gives a water repellant finish (the most stylish raincoat ever!), is machine washable, and comes in a range of colours, all for $104- what’s not to love?

I also picked this belted wrap coat as a way to add a cinched waistline and a feminine touch back into a layered look. Minimal embellishments make for a polished look. Would look great over a printed dress as well!

Tip 4: Pick natural or breathable fabrics.

I find myself hunting out natural fibres like cotton, wool, linen or man-made ones like rayon and viscose because, well, they are THAT comfy! But also, when it comes to layering I prefer to have something more breathable for my inner wear.

This striped long sleeve tee is a viscose and linen blend and will work moving into spring (yep, already wishing for warmer weather, to be honest!).

Meanwhile, I am blown away by the quality of this 100% cotton knit. Feels cozy enough to wear on its own but easy to layer with the striped tee and/or coats.

I hope that gives you a few ideas to try this winter. I’ve popped the links below to the items as well- 20% off until June 10th!

Happy layering!
